Although Vitamin D can be produced naturally in the body through regular exposure to sunlight, with the indoor lifestyles that many people are living and the popular use of sunscreens, many are not getting the amount of Vitamin D they should be. When exposed to 20-30 minutes of summer sun, the body can produce 10,000 IU of Vitamin D. However, when sunscreen is used, it blocks the UV rays that are necessary for vitamin D production. Many products, such as milk are also fortified with vitamin D. It would take drinking 50 glasses of milk to achieve getting 5,000 IU of vitamin D! When that doesn't make sense, opting for a quality liquid vitamin D supplement may be a better choice.
