How much Calcium do you need daily? This is a hard question to answer without explaining a little more about the forms of calcium. You see, there are many forms of calcium, each has it's place for something. Some are more "Useable" by the body. Here are some of the most common calciums on the market:

Calcium carbonate is a chemical compound with the chemical formula CaCO3. It is a common substance found as rock in all parts of the world, and is the main component of shells of marine organisms, snails, and eggshells. Calcium carbonate is the active ingredient in agricultural lime, and is usually the principal cause of hard water. It is commonly used medicinally as a calcium supplement or as an antacid, but high consumption can be hazardous.

Calcium carbonate is the most popular form in dietary supplements today. One Of the most popular is Coral Calcium, touted for being from the sea and all natural. It is not the egg shell that is is cracked up to be. Although, some calcium is better than none.

Calcium Carbonate best absorbtion rate .05 to 1%

Calcium Gluconate is the calcium salt of gluconic acid, an oxidation product of glucose, and contains 9.3% calcium, which is about one-third of the calcium in strength of calcium chloride USP. It has molecular formula C12H22CaO14 with a molecular weight of 430.38. Since it is soluble to the extent of only one proof in 30 parts of cold water, the 10% solution is supersaturated and is stabilized by the addition of calcium saccharate tetrahydrate 0.46% w/v (which supplies calcium 6.2%). Each mL contains 98 mg of calcium gluconate monohydrate, 4.6 mg of calcium saccharate tetrahydrate, and Water for Injection USP. This is the calcium used by the doctors.

Calcium Gluconate best absorbtion rate 6%.

Calcium Citrate If you suffer from acid stomach, it is best to avoid Calcium Citrate. Calcium citrate is the calcium salt of citric acid. It is commonly used as a food additive (E333), usually as a preservative, but sometimes for flavor. Calcium citrate is also used as a water softener because the citrate ions can chelate unwanted metal ions. Calcium citrate is also found in some dietary calcium supplements.

Calcium Citrate best absorbtion rate 7.5%

When purchasing calcium supplements, ensure to look for the elemental calcium content, not the total content. For instance, a supplement containing 500mg of Calcium Carbonate provides 200mg of elemental calcium. Hence this pill in this example only provides 200mg of calcium, not 500mg. And of that 200 mg only about 1% is absorbed by the body.

There are a lot of other calciums available and new companies are always claiming that there new kind of calcium is the best. A little chemistry to help clear the water.

Calcium Carbonate = Calcium + Carbon
Calcium Gluconate = Calcium + Gluconic acid
Calcium Citrate = Calcium + Citric Acid.

Do You See A Pattern Forming Here?
All of these forms of calcium are not pure, they have some carrier, filler or attatched baggage. They are all what we call compounds or colloidal.

Legally, a Calcium pill is rated by the total weight of the capsule, such as 500 mg per capsule. But how much of that 500 mg is calcium and how much is magnesium sterate or a flow agent for making the capsule or stamping the tablet? You have to read the fine print to see the elemental calcium content.

Angstrom Liquid Calcium is not colloidal or a compound. Our special process combines the pure calcium element with pure water. IT IS SMALLER! So small it can enter the cell without digestion. Pure calcium in water,

No carriers, no fillers, No EXCESS BAGGAGE!.

How about dosage size?
The FDA recommendation for adults ages 19-50 is 1000 mg of calcium per day (RDA). ( as if you can believe them, they are always changing the recommendations) But those are the only guideline we have to follow.

Math time:
Taking calcium carbonate at less that 1% absorbtion rate, and you take 1000 mg capsules, you are really only getting 10 mg a day of useable calcium into the body.
1000 mg calcium x 1% absorbtion rate = 10 mg of calcium
1000 mg a day recommendation / 10 mg = 100 tablets or capsules.
You can apply the same math for calcium Citrate and Gluconate changing the absorbtion rate to match. Calcium Gluconate is a little better because it is usually given in the vein by doctors.

So How Much Calcium Do You Need Daily?
Most recommend 1000 to 1500 mg a day including food calcium intake and dietary supplements.

Capsuled calcium is good, But a liquid form is better. Colloidal is small, but requires digestion. Angstrom size calcium is absorbable on the cellular level.

Angstrom Liquid Calcium is not colloidal. IT IS SMALLER! Pure calcium in water, No carriers, No fillers, No EXCESS BAGGAGE!.

Our Angstrom Liquid Calcium Mineral Suplement is smaller than colloidal calcium, others are not. If you were to compare other calcium brands it would be like a BB in a beach ball.

You would not eat a rock! Then why eat calcium carbonate? Coral calcium is exactly that. The calcum left over that forms coral, or rocks on the reef.
